Arc Length & Sector Area + Community “Livability”

Students explore properties of circles and how they can be used as a powerful tool for representing and approximating real-life situations. More specifically, they consider what “livability” means in their community, and investigative how complex questions about livability can be represented and approximated fairly accurately using rather simple mathematical tools.

Centers of Triangles + Access to Clean Water

Students explores centers of triangles (incenter, circumcenter, orthocenter & centroid). Then, they use the properties of points of concurrency to decide where to place a clean water source or a factory that produces water filters for a community that has limited access to clean drinking water.
